Sending automated replies through Instagram's own Messaging API is not a ban risk, because Meta built that API for exactly this. The bans people talk about come from a different practice that also gets called automation.
Two things get mixed up.
The first is the official path. Your account is a Business or Creator account, it is linked to a Facebook Page, and you approve a tool on Meta's own login screen. Every message then goes out through Meta's API, inside Meta's rate limits, and Meta can see exactly what was sent and why. Nothing about it is hidden from the platform.
The second is unofficial automation: tools that log in as you, scrape the app, mass follow, or send DMs to people who never contacted you. Those break the platform terms, and those are what get accounts restricted.
The rules that actually bind you on the official path are narrower than most people expect:
- Someone has to start the conversation. A comment, a DM, a story reply, or a tap on a button counts. A bought list does not.
- You get a 24 hour window for free form replies after their last message. After that you need a different message type.
- Volume limits are per account and enforced by Meta, not by the tool. Over the limit the API refuses the send instead of letting it through quietly, which is why a refused send shows as a failed run rather than a silent gap.
For your forty price questions a day, the normal shape is a comment automation: they comment, the reply lands in their DMs, and nothing goes to anyone who did not ask.
