Playbook: Comment-to-DM

Turn post comments into DM conversations with a published automation.
10 min readUpdated Oct 17, 2026Beginner

Goal

Capture intent from comments (keywords like β€œprice”, β€œlink”, β€œinfo”) and continue the conversation in DM with a short value-first sequence.

Build it

1

Connect the channel

Connect Instagram (or another channel that supports comment triggers) under Dashboard β†’ Channels.

2

Start from a template or blank automation

Dashboard β†’ Automations β†’ Templates β†’ comment-to-DM pattern, or create a new automation with a comment trigger.

3

Configure keywords and match mode

List keywords and choose exact vs contains. Keep the list tight to avoid noisy triggers.

4

Write the DM sequence

Open with a short message (no heavy links in the first DM). Add buttons or quick replies for the next step. Optional: tag the contact and notify Inbox.

5

Publish and monitor

Publish the automation, test on a staging post if you can, then watch run metrics and Inbox for the first 48 hours.

Tips

  • Respect messaging windows: private replies and DMs still follow provider rules.
  • Use Audience tags so Broadcasts can retarget engagers later.
  • A/B split the opening DM once you have enough volume.

Comment protection

Comment protection checks new comments on your Instagram posts and Facebook Page posts against the rules you turn on, and acts on the ones that match. It is off until you turn it on under Dashboard β†’ Automations β†’ Comment protection. The checks run on our servers; comments are not sent to an outside service.

Rules you can turn on

  • Your own words and phrases
  • Scam and spam phrases, with English and Turkish lists
  • Profanity: a general list, a Turkish list and terms you add
  • Phone numbers and email addresses
  • Links, except the domains you allow

What happens to a matching comment

  • Each rule hides the comment by default. You can choose to delete it or only be notified instead.
  • When two rules match, the stronger action wins.
  • Accounts you trust are skipped.
  • Notify sends an alert to your active teammates, at most 10 an hour.
  • Every action is listed in the activity log, and a hidden comment can be shown again from there.
  • A hidden comment does not start automations, unless you change that in the settings.

Comment protection is on every plan. Changing its settings needs permission to publish automations.
