Playbook: Lead generation

Qualify leads in DM with questions, tags, and handoff to Inbox.
9 min readUpdated Oct 17, 2026Intermediate

Pattern

Use an ask-with-quick-replies (or button) sequence to capture intent, store answers on the contact, tag by qualification, and assign hot leads to a human in Inbox.

Setup

1

Define qualification fields

Decide which custom attributes or tags mean MQL vs nurture.

2

Build the ask sequence

In Automations, chain short questions with quick replies. Keep each step under one decision.

3

Branch and tag

Use conditions on answers to tag qualified vs not-yet. Add an optional AI reply for FAQs and a “Talk to a person” quick reply that notifies your team.

4

Handoff

Assign the conversation or notify the team so Inbox owns the close.

Google Sheets

Connect your Google account under Settings → Integrations, then use three flow steps: add a row, find a row (later steps can use the values it found), and update a row, optionally adding it when nothing matches.

  • Columns are matched by the header names in row 1.
  • Find looks at the first 2,000 rows.
  • A row is written only when a flow reaches the step. Contacts are not synced to the sheet on their own.
  • Google Sheets steps are on Growth and above.

Facebook Lead Ads

Turn on Lead Ads for a connected Facebook Page under Settings → Integrations. Each new lead is saved as a form submission. The contact is found or created by email, or by phone when there is no email, and empty profile fields are filled in. The "Outside form sent" trigger then starts your flows, and you can filter it by source and form name.

  • A lead has no chat, so steps that send a DM do not run. Tags, Slack, CRM, email and SMS steps do.
  • If a lead has neither an email nor a phone number, the answers are kept but no contact is created.

Typeform, Jotform and other form tools

Add Typeform, Jotform, Google Ads lead forms or any other tool that can send a webhook under Settings → Integrations to get a webhook address. Submissions go through the same "Outside form sent" trigger.

  • ChatinFlow reads JSON, with fields up to one level deep.
  • A submission that arrives twice is saved once.
  • Bodies up to 256 KB are accepted.
  • Typeform signatures and the Google Ads key are checked. For other tools the address itself is the secret, so keep it private.
